If I Rode The… Again Series

The If I Rode The… Again Series is designed to share what I would use in terms of gear if I revisited a trail I’ve already ridden. Reflecting on my experiences since completing the Bikepacking Triple Crown (AZTR, CTR, and Tour Divide) in 2017—and even earlier multi-day trips—I’ve noticed significant changes in how I ride, my mindset, and the gear I use.

In this If I Rode The… Again Series, I compare the gear I used on my first rides to what I would choose now, explaining the reasons behind my updated choices. I also share insights into my evolved approach and mindset for each trail, helping readers understand the logic behind my recommendations.

By offering these reflections, my goal is for the If I Rode The… Again Series to help others plan their adventures and navigate the gear selection process with greater confidence.

IF I RODE THE ARIZONA TRAIL AGAIN

The AZT taught me about fitness, hydration, under estimating the conditions, but also about gear choices and more.

IF I RODE THE COLORADO TRAIL AGAIN

Racing in the rain for seven straight days was tough and the lessons learned about what gear you want for those conditions was well taken.

IF I RODE THE TOUR DIVIDE AGAIN

The Tour Divide had many lessons to teach me. Some about efficiency, mental prep, and gear too.

IF I RODE THE KOKOPELLI TRAIL AGAIN

The Kokopelli was my first multi-day bikepacking trip. Even with everything I’ve learned I wouldn’t change much in terms of gear.

IF I RODE THE BAY CIRCUIT TRAIL AGAIN

The BCT was a crash course in time, food, and water management.
