If I Hiked…Again

A lot of time has passed since I first did the thru-hiked the Triple Crown (AT, PCT and CDT). After doing these hikes and many others the gear I use, how I approach a hike and so much more has changed. The gear has also changed over that time, which has affected my decision making process. I designed the If I Hiked Again series to show others what I would use in terms of gear if I went back and hiked a certain trail again.

I show both what gear I used the first time and what I would bring next time, and I give reasons why. I also touch upon my approach for each trail and the new mindset I would bring to it, so that the reader can better understand my gear choices.

Hopefully this If I Hiked Again series will help others plan their own adventures and lessen the learning curve.

APPALACHIAN TRAIL

The AT was my first long distance trail. I learned a lot but I’ve learned even more since.

PACIFIC CREST TRAIL

I felt like I knew a lot going into my first PCT thru-hike, but I still learned a lot. Keep reading to find out what I learned.

CONTINENTAL DIVIDE TRAIL

The CDT rewrote the book once again. Next time I would be more prepared for extreme weather and harder days.

COLORADO TRAIL

Technically my third go at the CT and it was amazing once again.

LONG TRAIL

Using what I learned on the AT I applied it to the LT. That said, I’d change so much since I did it.
