MFG Cycle U Kick-Off Cross

Cross started last week at North SeaTac and this weekend saw the the start of the MFG Series.  Nerves were high as most  haven’t looked at much less ridden their cross bikes since last December.  It was time to dust off ones bike handling skills and get back to business.

The turnout at Big Finn was impressive.  I believe there were more single speeds than Cat. 3’s in the 2:30 race!  The course was reminiscent of last years course with a few extra turns thrown in to throw you off your game.  Hats off to the guys for getting a new bridge put in the second single track section.

Kerri Studley took home top honors in the Woman’s 1-2 and told me she was impressed with the depth of the field.  She thinks the competition will be good this year.  In the Men’s 1-2, Nick Weighall and Spencer Paxton battled it out for most of the day with Ryan Iddings chasing the pair.  Weighall would distance himself from Paxton on the last lap taking home the win as he did last year.

In the Master’s 1-2 Brendan Connolly took top honors follow by Matt Hill and Todd Morris Tucker.  Yours truly was 10th.  I’m happy with that since I hoped to get 10th or better.  I went into the day with a sore back from a long week at work but luckily it held out for over half the race before it tightened up and I started to lose power.

I’m really looking forward to next week at Lake Sammamish State Park.  I really enjoyed that course last year.  Nice work to all this weekend and enjoy the movie!

If you like to geek out with numbers like me here is my Garmin info for the race.

Nice job Craig. Sorry I missed it. I think cyclocross in Vancouver BC is about 8 years behind the Northwest…

PS: I believe it is Starcrossed/ Rad Racing GP next weekend, with Lk. Sammamish/ SCCA/Starbucks GP on October 3.
