With November like rain and August warmth this years race at Lake Sammamish State Park was nothing like last years. The Cat. 4 riders lucked out with the driest conditions of the day. After that it was one rain squall after another with sun in between. As a result the course became slick and very technical.
Like last night at Starcrossed Katarina Nash of Luna and Francis Mourey the French National Champion won again. Though this time Nash had to work for the win in the beginning. Wendy Simms of Kona chased hard early keeping the pressure on. Eventually Nash provide too strong and pull out a big lead, winningly easily at the line.
Francis Mourey took the lead from Jonathan Page of Planet Bike, who took the hole shot and never looked back. Page would battle with Christian Heule (Swi) Vc Gippingen for the number two spot in the latter laps when Heule caught Page who had been riding alone for most of the race. Heule lead out the sprint on the long finishing straight and Page showed his early season form by coming around and taking second at the line.
Ryan Trebon went down on lap 1 on a slick off chamber turn (watch for it in the video) and in the process took out teammate Barry Wicks. Trebon would battle back for fourth, while Wicks was a few more back well inside the top 10.
Yours truly took home 18th place in the Master 1-2 race. I didn’t feel on as I went to bed on saturday night after Starcrossed with a massive headache and then woke up with it the next morning. Top 20 out of 41 riders is okay for not feeling it.
