The Tour Divide has many amazing places to stop and resupply/rest at. After all it’s one of the easier routes to resupply on.  Like with all things in life, some things are better than others.  The TD is no different, especially when talking about towns along the route.

Some towns are big and some are quite small.  In this case the size of a town doesn’t mean it will be better if big or worse if small.  If you know where to look, or stop in this case, you can find some amazing stops along the Tour Divide (GDMBR).

My Top 5 Best Stops list below is a combination of towns, businesses and hostels.  You might agree or not with my list but rest assure that the Tour Divide has plenty of great options.

HERE ARE MY (VERY SUBJECTIVE) Top 5 Best Stops ON THE TOUR DIVIDE

1.

OVANDO, MT

Don’t let it’s small size or population foul you.  Ovando, MT is racer’s dream town.  The Blackfoot Commercial Company has food, snacks, rooms, showers, laundry and wifi.  Across the street you’ll find another two gems.

The first is the Blackfoot Angler.  Make sure Kathy gets your photo, as she tracks racers and posts the photos online.  They also carry a small assortment of tires, tubes, lube, chains, some brake pads, water bottles, quick links, and some general stuff people need in an emergency.

Next door is the Stray Bullet, where they serve up tasty food to fuel your ride.  This whole town embraces the Tour Divide and it’s riders.  They are super friendly and helpful, making you feel right at home.

HIGH COUNTRY RANCH

You’ll probably curse the fact that the High Country Ranch is uphill and off route but once in Russ and Karen’s care you’ll realize it was worth it.  The ranch offers room, wifi, dinning, and food to go.  I even scored batteries for my GPS.  Russ and Karen do an amazing job at making your feel at home when you stop in to see them.  Just be courteous and take off your shoes when you go in.

Brush Mtn. Lodge

If you’ve ever wonder what it might be like to be a Pro racer, I think I got a taste of that when I stopped at the Brush Mountain Lodge.  Kristin and her staff waited on me hand and foot.  From the time I got there I only had to get up to use the bathroom and empty my trash from my bike.

Can you say “Brick Oven Pizza”?  I could stop there but they also have rooms, showers, laundry and probably the best hospitality on the route.

STEAMBOAT MEAT & SEAFOOD CO.

The Steamboat Meat & Seafood Company made my list for offering up the best sandwich on the Divide.  I went in here with my head in a cloud of exhaustion.  The staff was great and noticed my condition.  They gave me time and suggestions on what was good.

I left with a sandwich and when I ate it later in the day, I wished I had gotten 2 or 3 of them.  Amazing food!  They’re located just south of Orange Peel Bike Shop.

TOASTER HOUSE

You’d think a place with no one there to run it wouldn’t be that great of a place to stop at.  You’d be wrong in this case.  The Toaster House is a hiker/bike hostel in Pie Town, NM.

Locals and those who own it resupply it when needed.  You’ll find sodas, Gatorade and other drinks in the frig on the porch and a kitchen full of food.  There’s plenty of porch space to relax and beds to sleep ing.  You can find showers and wifi at the RV park just north of the house.
