2Toms Sports Detergent

Test Period: 2 loads of laundry

Field Tester: Scatman

2Toms contacted me to test their new “stink free” sports detergent a few months back.  Being an active guy I always have stinky clothes in need of a good wash.  I’m going to be up front and honest here and just say I didn’t expect the 2Toms Sports Detergent to be able to tackle my four year old cycling kit.  Being synthetic it’s held on to every bit of stinky bacteria available to it over the last four years.  I did have hopes it would do as touted for my newer items which haven’t had time to build the defenses my cycling kit had.

As expected my old cycling kit still stinks as bad as ever.  It did smell better fresh out of the wash but the moment you barely sweat in it, it’s like the fabric has memory and stinks to high heavens again.  I fear my only option left is to burn the kit in a ritual manner in hopes of sending a message to my other synthetic clothes that stink will not be tolerated.

The rest of my clothes including my wool hiking items came out smelling great and the stink didn’t appear to magically return upon use.  Now I know all to well the benefits of wool when it comes to it’s ability to not stink and that is why I use as much wool as possible.  That said my wool wasn’t the best item to test with.  My other synthetic items as I said came out clean and fresh.  I’m convinced this is party due to the 2Toms detergent and the fact they haven’t reached that point of no return.  I can’t not say whether the 2Toms restored the fabrics performance and breathability as I can’t really test either.

Unfortunately I was only able to do two loads of laundry which is not really enough to know whether the 2Toms sports detergent would help prevent the build up of bacteria which leads to my problem with my cycling kit described above.  From my test I can attest to a fresh scent and clean clothes.  I just can’t say anything about the long term benefits of the product.

The Facts:

  • Gets the stink out!
  • Safe on all high-performance fabrics and colors
  • Residue-free
  • Perfume-free
  • Won’t irritate skin
  • Reinstates fabric performance
  • Leaves clothes naturally soft and static-free
  • Safe for high-efficiency washing machines
  • Washes 30 loads
  • Recyclable bottle

It’s simple. Wash your sweaty clothes often with 2Toms Stink Free Sports Detergent. It works because it kills stinky bacteria on contact! It even works on today’s high-tech fabrics that hold on to odor after they’ve been washed with regular laundry detergent. -2Toms

Pros and Cons:  The Pros are easy; my clothes came out of the wash clean and smelling fresh.  The Cons are that it couldn’t completely remove the stink from my old kit, but as I said the kit is probably past the point of no return.  I also had the trial size detergent and though it says you can do two with HE and front loading machines I can’t imagine cutting the pouch open then leaving it for later use when using a top loading machine.  The detergent is like water in its consistency so spillage is a big factor.

Overall: 2Toms sports detergent does clean your clothes and leave them smelling good.  It’s hard for me to say just how well it does the rest of what they claim but from my limited use I would use it again.  At 43 cents a load for 30 washes you can’t beat the price when it comes to sports detergents.
