Location: Cortez, CO

Getting there:

From either Cortez or Durango take Rt. 160.  If your coming from Cortez you’ll turn left onto a dirt road opposite the fairgrounds and right if your coming from Durango.  The turn is unmarked but with a keen eye you’ll see the dirt parking lot which is the trail head for Phil’s World.

The Facts:

Miles:  20+

Single Track:  100%

Min./Max. Elevation:  6270/6630

Current Conditions:

The trail at Phil’s World currently is in great condition.  The trails were quite dry when we arrived but before we left the heavens opened up and they got a huge amount of rain so the dirt is probably at “Hero Dirt” status.

*note I only rode a small port of the trails at Phil’s World. See map link above.

What to expect:

Phil’s Word is top class mountain biking. The Rib Cage is a blast and it’s almost impossible to not get air on this roller coaster of a trail. There isn’t anything too technical or any climb too long making Phil’s World a pleasure for all skill levels. You’ll ride smooth fast trails at times, lined with berms and hip jumps and at other times you’ll ride ledges and small slick rock sections. Phil’s World will keep you on your toes and demands that you keep your head up.
I rode just a small portion of the trails here but had a blast. You can not go wrong with a trip to Phil’s. Bring lots of water as you won’t find much shade, plus you’ll not want to stop riding.
